PaintBox is a relatively straight forward program. When you open the program you are displayed with a splash screen. To create a new drawing go up to the top left corner where you see the File menu. In here is a "new" option.

With this new drawing you can add shapes by pressing on the buttons beneath the menus. The color that you are drawing in can be changed by clicking on the colored button labeled "border" At the moment all of the figures you are drawing are not filled, so to fill the closed shapes (lines and polylines can not be filled) you have to go into select mode by pressing the button marked "select"

In select mode you can select a shape you have drawn and edit it. You can change its border color as discussed above, but you can also change its fill color. To do this check the box marked "filled" next to the border color button. The "fill" button will now allow you to select it and by clicking on it and choosing a color you will be able to change the fill color of the shape.

Other things that can be done in select mode are the moving or deleting of shapes. To move a shape select the shape click the move button and then click on the canvas again. Now when you move your mouse the shape will move with it. When you click again the shape will stay where it was. To delete a shape select it and then press delete. Many of these abilities that you can use in select mode are in the edit menu with a few other abilities giving you even more control over the shapes.
