I'm using p7zip 9.20 and if I'm creating an archive with -p but don't enter any password p7zip is asking me for a password if I want to extract the archive. Pressing enter in this case will continue as expected but in my opinion empty passwords shouldn't be prompted.

    I don't understand what you want ?
if "-p" then ask for a password until the user enters a non empty password ?

    "-p" is a valid flag.

"7za -pa_password ..." will use "a_password" to encrypt the archive
But if another user uses "ps -edf" , he can view the password !

    "7za -p ..." will ask you a password.
"ps -edf" does not show the password ...

For example compress something like this: "7z a -p test.7z test". Don't enter a password if p7zip asks you, just press enter. Now try to extract the archive and p7zip will ask you for a password but you have never entered one.
