I have to agree with Bill. My current employer has standardized on P4WSAD and given the lack of current energy for p4eclipse, there is no compelling reason to switch. David, I want to thank you for all efforts on this tool. I made heavy use of it for over two years and am grateful to have had it. oops, meant to send this to the list... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- I'm willing to take a stab at updating it, but I'm not sure a) how much tim= e I can devote to it or b) if I have enough knowledge to be the "leader". I'v= e been poking around in the p4eclipse code off & on for a while, but it's my first experience working on an Eclipse plug-in, so it takes me a while to figure out how the APIs fit together. From what I've found so far, the binaries from the update site are compatible with 3.1, but the source won't compile on 3.1. I'll probably try make that step first, before trying to jump to 3.2, especially since 3.2 is still under development. 18 months ago, I announced that I was stepping down as the project leader for P4Eclipse. I requested someone to step forward and take over as leader, promsiing to give what support I can. No one did, and during that 18 months, the project has been completely dormant. Once again, I'm asking for someone in the community to step forward and take the project over. It seems that it's not compatible with Eclipse 3.2, and someone else taking the reins is the only way it's likely to get fixed. So please, someone, here it is. Take it. David |

I'm working on a patch to add the ablity to sync to a revision (changelist, label, date, or file version) other than head. Right now, my manual tests are working, but I have a few tweaks to make yet before I'll be ready to submit it. I'm not quite sure how to write JUnit tests for this feature, unless I can find a way to do something like 'p4 files'. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Also, could I get a copy of the checkstyle configuration used for p4ecilpse and, if possible, an export of the Eclipse code formatter settings used for this project? [A side note: the wiki at http://p4eclipse.sourceforge.net/ appears to be down.] Kajsa Anderson |

Ok, I found these instructions on the Developer FAQ: >Q: How do I get started contributing to p4eclipse? >A: 1) join the p4eclipse-development and p4eclipse-user lists >2) get yourself a perforce server (if you don't have one already) from perforce.com >3) download the source and get it built. >4) Ask questions about the source/project on the dev mailing list. I got as far as downloading the source, but I'm stuck on getting it built, although the instructions would seem to imply that it should be a no-brainer. Hopefully I'm just missing something obvious, so I figured I'd try step 4. :) I poked around in the dev list archives, and managed to check out and create projects for the modules the FAQ says are required, but I'm getting a whole bunch of errors: Project net.sourceforge.perforce.core is missing required Java project: 'org.eclipse.core.resources' Project net.sourceforge.perforce.core is missing required Java project: 'org.eclipse.core.runtime.compatibility' Project net.sourceforge.perforce.core is missing required Java project: 'org.eclipse.team.core' net.sourceforge.perforce.core This is my first time trying to build a plug-in that's any more complicated than the Hello World they have in the tutorial, but that seemed to use the jars for various eclipse dependencies - do I have to do something special for the p4eclipse projects to be able to see these jars? If it helps, I noticed that the example plugin has a set of plug-in dependencies on the build path, but none of the p4eclipse projects do. By the way, the Developer FAQ on the wiki says that one of the "active" modules is "net.sourceforge.perforce.core.tests" which I can't find in CVS - I assum the wiki should be updated to say "net.sourceforge.perforce.tests.core"? Also, I tried to register on the wiki, but I kept getting errors that my email address was invalid (for 3 different addresses, all of which should work - and yes, I checked that I typed it right). I don't know where else to report this... Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Kajsa Anderson |

You certainly can. If you'll check the recent archives of the user mailing list for message entitled "Perforce Status", you'll see that I've recently stepped down as leader due to lack of time. At this time, no one else has stepped forward. You can help in "any way you see fit". Having to remember to go into the preferences pane, Perforce, Background updates and change the number is a PITA and something I often forget to do. When I do forget, Eclipse slows down and down and DOWN and finally locks up my entire machine taking all my other running apps with it. So, is there any quick hack I can use to make this NOT occur? I'd be quite content if background updates NEVER happened honestly, rather than the current hosorama we're forced to deal with. Thanks for any clues! -Chris (I love Eclipse but suddenly IDEA isn't looking all that expensive, I lost almost a week's work to this stupid problem :\) -- ------------ Chris Patti - cp...@gm... ----------- America goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. -John Quincy Adams |

I'm hot on the track of figuring out bug #961730 but I'm having some problems with debugging the p4eclipse plugins. I successfully have a Eclipse instance up and running under the debugger and successfully place breakpoints in the p4eclipse code. However, the source doesn't seem to be appropriately linked to the runtime debugger. I can't double click a line in the stack trace to open the source file, and I can't examine the contents of objects. In fact, I get the following message: PerforceCorePlugin.getPlugin().getBackgroundUpdateInterval() Evaluation failed. Reason(s): The selected stack frame must be associated with a Java project in the workspace to perform an evaluation. I'm new to PDE debugging, any hints on getting source-level functionality working properly with the debugger? Thanks! - Mark |

Since I haven't seen any activity on the list about the M9 release, I'll share a bit of my experiences. So far, out of the box (w/o looking at the log files) it appears to work just fine. No odd errors or anything. However, looking in the logfile I see a few errors and a constant warning about my eclipse home not being under my p4 client root. Unfortunately, the stacktraces I receive are on my workstation at work (and I'm writing this from home :), however, they did seem to deal with Timers and the new Progress View/Scheme in Eclipse. But again, they don't seem to be a problem in so far as I can tell. Anyone else see the same thing? -t |

Hello everybody! I think there are some problems with the mailing-list and its archive: - I have not received any e-mail since Friday, April 16, 2004 - the latest e-mail in the mailing-list-archive is dated April 4, 2004, missing all the e-mails up to today What do you think? Greetings, Josef |

David is right, I just investigated perspective "CVS Repository Exploring" and syncing is much easier than I thought using the following steps: 1) switch to perspective "CVS Repository Exploring" 2) use context menu item "New - Repository Location" in the "CVS repositories" view and fill the "Add CVS Repository" dialog using the information in http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=40694 3) expand the repository tree and select the plugin you want to sync 4) use context menu item "Check Out As" and choose "Check out as a project in the Workspace" in the "Check Out As" wizard 5) press button "Finish" and Eclipse will download the resources 6) repeat steps 3) - 5) for other plugins you want to sync David, thanks for your hint! I suggest including this information in the "Development" section in the P4Eclipse-HomePage at http://p4eclipse.sourceforge.net/ Greetings, Josef > You know that is WAY more comlex than I do it.
