p2pshaper 1.4.2 released

p2pshaper 1.4.2 is a linux QoS script to ensure good latency and fairness on a network connection overloaded by filesharing applications. It also includes generic optimizations to improve fairness. This release includes performance improvements and documentation updates.

- Added unified patches against recent kernels
With the amount of patches p2pshaper needs, people have had problems
patching kernels. To make this easier, p2pshaper now includes patches
for most recent kernels. This will probably ease the installation of
p2pshaper. Old patches have been moved to the old/ directory.... read more

p2pshaper 1.4 released

p2pshaper 1.4 is a linux QoS script to ensure good latency and fairness on a network connection overloaded by filesharing applications. It also includes generic optimizations to improve fairness. This release includes numerous improvements since the 1.3 test release.

- Made the script output the correct version 1.4 instead of 2.0

The 1.3 and 1.2 p2pshaper incorrectly identified itself as p2pshaper 2.0. This was because much of the script was merged with p2pshaper 2.0. This has been fixed in this version.... read more

p2pshaper 1.3 test release

p2pshaper v1.3 is a linux QoS script to ensure good latency and fairness on a network connection overloaded by filesharing applications. This release includes numerous improvements and fixes errors found in the 1.2 release.

One of the biggest changes are the inclusion of ipp2p and l7-filter support in the script. It will make it easier to put p2p traffic in the correct bands.

2 new bands have been created. Band "0" has got interactive traffic at all times, but are shaped at rather low bandwidth. This is useful for local service ports which needs high responsiveness, but not much bandwidth. Band "8" has the lowest priority and are also shaped at a bit lower than the ordinary bands. It is meant that all p2p traffic recognized by ipp2p or l7-filter should go there.... read more

p2pshaper-1.2 released

p2pshaper is a bandwidth control script for the linux kernel. It ensures respectable latencies on normal traffic (web, mail, etc.) while still allowing p2p traffic.

Version 1.2 includes numerous improvements in the shaper itself, as well as cleanups in the configuration file. Also improvements for people running proxy servers like squid.

From the changelog:
- Major code cleanup (variable names etc.)
- Cleaned up the config file, and made it more "v2" like
- Added autodetection of various things (program locations etc.)
- Removed need to supply IP addresses, they are not needed no more.
- Tweaked settings a bit
- Added the p2pshaper to the OUTPUT chain to include proxies
- Added ingress policer to wan_if... read more

1.1 test release

I just updated the 1.1 test release of p2pshaper. It is mainly a source code cleanup. Small things have been fixed, and it is generally more complete now. Check it out.

I will test it for some a month or two before I release version 1.2, which will probably be the last release. Unless someone has some features to add.

Another thing is, that I am working on p2pshaper v2.0, which works in a different way. I would have called it p3pshaper, but it might confuse people. Stay tuned.
