OVERTS© is an open source Java coded gaming engine that is designed for the creation of turn-based and real-time strategy games. The aims of this project is to create easy to use tools to create worlds, terrains, and objects, with an easy to use Voxel editor, as well as provide an API for easy coding of most any style of strategy game one can think of. In the beginning, OVERTS© will attempt to emulate classics such as Command & Conquer© by Westwood© and other simpler titles like Advance Wars© by Nintendo©. As time progresses and the code library for OVERTS© increases size and popularity, the API will most likely be extended to emulate newer titles such as Star Craft 2© by Blizzard©, and Wargame: European Escalation© by Eugen Systems©. Keep in mind, it is not the goal of OVERTS© to create game content or “rip-off” software that has already been licensed and distributed by wealthy corporations. OVERTS© will simply give a dedicated game developer the tools it needs to create a stand-alone game much easier than if one started from scratch.
