a player can assign planets to one out of 4-5 renameble "pools". he does this in the "planets/planet list"-dialog, where there are new columns with checkboxes for every pool. if the player wants to i.e. put planet A to the "production-worlds"-pool, he checks in planet A's line the assoziated column.
a player also can add planets to pools in the planet's infoscreen with a new dropdownmenu or button.
at a planet's infoscreen, you there have two new buttons to forward and back to other planets belonging to the same pool.
abother, even more desired, possibility would be, not to have "checkboxes" to assign planets to pools, but to have interactive filters which assign planets to pools.
such a filter would i.e. assign all planets to a pool (user named) which conform to certain attributes (which the user defined). for example: add all planets to pool with "ship XY" in building queue. or add all planets with expandable surface and NOT "surface expansion"-prject in queue to pool. or put all planets with not enough EN or BIO to pool, etc...
this pool-adding Filter could appear besides the current "planet list" dialog
filter options should cover all planet informations available. (from MIN, EN, ENV, over mrl, prod queue items to "distance to star xy" and "redirection traget")

Would be a fairly involved update. I understand the reason for large empires, but I'm not sure if this sort of massive change is something we want to broach in the near-term.
OS 0.6 is planned to have "management zones" - that is several systems near each other will be assigned to a management pool where they pool production for common ship output. Perhaps we should just wait for that?
