I presented on OSER to the LAMPSIG group last night. Here is the follow
up e-mail I sent. It seemed relevant to this list as it has some
announcements...

Hello everyone,
I want to thank you for having me present at LampSIG yesterday on my
open source exchange replacement platform. I could see that everyone was
very interested and there were a lot of good questions/comments/feedback
that will help me moving forward. As I said at the meeting I will be
doing major work on the project over the weekend to coincide with the
OpenConnector[1] Beta Release.
I will also be updating the project website [2]. I will be adding
more information for people who want to help with development, as well
as what differentiates us from the competition
(Scalix/OpenGroupware/Zimbra). I will most likely be releasing Tech
Preview 2 on SF as well.
Another thing that a lot of people have expressed interest in is the
voice interface. This is something that will take some time to get
operational but when it is released, it will be a paradigm shift for
sure. I will be adding more information and an early design/functional
specification for the voice aspects of the project to the site over the
weekend as well.
There was a question if I had a blog. Well of course I do :) It can
be found at http://jackshck.livejournal.com Also my personal home page
can be found at http://www.thewybles.com/~charles You will find links to
various projects I have done and things I maintain or have been involved
in.
If I have missed anything in this post please let me know.
-Charles

Hello everyone, We are very proud to announce the release of the OSER Platform Tech Preview 1. Here is the release announcement: WARNING: THIS IS NOT PRODUCTION READY. YOU MAY NOT DEPLOY THIS IN PRODUCTION! This is the first release of the tech preview series. A lot of people have been watching the OSER Platform and eagerly awaiting the releae of our product. We are very proud to announce the first of 3 preview releases. This release is not an alpha release but its not a beta either. Its sort of in between. An alpha release is usually considered unstable and doesn't have all the features of the final product. A beta is considered somewhat unstable but feature complete. Well this release is somewhat in between. It has the following features: 1. Web interface. We use Egroupware for this function. 2. Device sync support. We use Sync4j running under tomcat for this. 3. IMAP/SMTP. We use Courier and Postfix to provide this functionality. among others. However they are not yet fully tested or integrated. We are working out a lot of bugs. This release is mainly for early adopters/testers. IT IS NOT READY TO BE TESTED BY END USERS!!! We encourage users to install this on a test system and report back any bugs encountered with the installation procedure. What hardware is supported/not supported etc. Once we have received that feedback we will release tech preview 2 that will feature our custom kernel (under development now). Also a lot more of the functionality will be there. Preview 3 will be our first beta release. Look for preview 2 around the March 15th and preview 3/beta1 around the March 30th. We plan to release 1.0 on May 1st. We apologize for taking so long to get this out the door. Things have been very busy and while a lot of people seem interested in using the product no one seems to want to help with funding or developing it. If you would like to see certain features or the project improve in general please help by donating time or money to the project. Thank you. We will be writing a task list and putting it up on SF soon. We will also be placing documentation on the webpage http://www.thewybles.com/~charles/oser and on the SF project documentation tool. WARNING: THIS IS NOT PRODUCTION READY. YOU MAY NOT DEPLOY THIS IN PRODUCTION! Thank you for your time and support thus far. |

Hello everyone, Charles and I want to thank everyone who attended the Southern California Linux Expo 2006 over the weekend and stopped by our booth. It was the first time we let the project leave the internet, and it was well received by all! As I'm sure you know, there are a multitude of people wanting alternatives to MS Exchange, and we're hoping to be ready for small to medium businesses in about six months. After that, the world! The 1.0 release will be on SourceForge by the end of the week. Our technical difficulties at the show led us to some issues that we're trying to resolve before the release. We apologize for the inconvenience, but promise that it'll be worth the wait. We'll be the first to install it here on our home network for our own email and calendaring use. I'm as excited about the platform at home as some of you are about the thought of it at work! Thank you for your continued good wishes and support. Hopefully soon after the 1.0 release, there will be more ways that people can help, with testing, development, and documentation. As you know, you can get more information at http://www.thewybles.com/~charles/oser or http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/oser . Thank you, Patti Wyble (sarolite) Open Source Delivery Systems __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hello Everyone, This is the first of what will hopefully be many posts to oser-announce. There is a lot going on and this list will be the place you hear about it first. I want to let you all know that the OSER project will have a booth at SCALE 2006. SCALE is an annual Linux event in the Southern California area. It brings together businesses, academic institutions and the Linux community in a way that no other conference does. For more information on SCALE 2006 you can visit the offical website at http://socallinuxexpo.com/ If you or anyone you know will be in the Southern California area at the time of the conference I would love to meet you. Stop by the OSER booth and say hi. I will also be launching version 1.0 of the project at SCALE. Please let everyone you know who is interested in replacing exchange that the OSER project is up and running. |
