Since several people have been using RedHat 9, we need to let you know about our experience using it. Since SAPDB uses threads, if you use the default thread libraries provided by RH9, you will be using the new NTPL. There are changes that occur to how virtual memory is allocated with the new thread library, so that our memory settings may fail due to lack of address space (virtual, not physical) memory. If you run into this problem, the database will not start and the kernel diag file (/var/opt/sapdb/indep_data/wrk/DBT2/knldiag) will have a message about not enough memory. If this happens, you have two choices: (1) Reduce the amount of memory needed (best way is to lower DATA_CACHE). (2) Use the old thread library by starting x_server with LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 /opt/sapdb/indep_prog/bin/x_server start -or_ LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 /opt/sapdb/indep_prog/bin/x_server start You can read more about this in the RedHat 9 release notes: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/release-notes/x86/ -- Mary Edie Meredith <mar...@os...> Open Source Development Lab |
