I have released a version of Oscar (0.9.4a) that really fixes, rather than partially fixes, the refresh problem under Windows. Even though this issue only directly impacts Windows users, it is worthwhile for Linux users to download it to avoid unneeded open file pointers. Have fun. -> richard |

I released Oscar 0.9.4 today. This release is definitely worth the
upgrade. For Windows users, it fixes a "refresh" bug that was introduced
in the pre-releases and for everyone else it introduces new features and
more specification compliance, including the initial implementation of a
Start Level service from the OSGi 3 specification. Definitely the best
release yet.

Hello everyone, I have released an updated version of Oscar today. The last release of Oscar was a major re-engineering effort, but this new release focused on smoothing out the rough edges of the last release. While this release is still considered a "pre-release" of version 0.9.4, it should be as stable as previous versions of Oscar. The next release of Oscar will be 0.9.4 final, which I plan to add support for the new OSGi start-level service. Specifically regarding this new release, anyone heavily using threads should upgrade from 0.9.4pre1 to 0.9.4pre2. Enjoy. -> richard |

A pre-release of Oscar version 0.9.4 is now available. This release represents a major re-engineering effort for Oscar, so I am making this pre-release available for testing and feedback. I have just released a new version of Oscar because I found a bug in class loading that could result in improper "class not found" and "class cast" exceptions; this bug was introduced in version 0.9.3, so anyone using that version or newer should upgrade to be safe. -> richard p.s. FYI -- I am nearing completion of a major re-engineering effort on Oscar and expect to release a "developer" snapshot on Source Forge soon. At that time I will start to beg people to download it and send me feedback, both good and bad...keep your eyes open. |

Hello again.
A few minor issues arose in the new Oscar release. I debated whether I
should update the packages or not. In the end, I decided it was better
to release early and often. If the changes don't affect you, then there
is no reason to download this update. For detail, check out:

new shell service with text and graphical user interfaces. Please read

That's right, there is a new Oscar update!
First things first, some preliminary information:
1. The Oscar release package is now divided into multiple pieces to
reduce its size; you only need to download the main
oscar_20020502.jar package -- the new installer will allow you to
choose the other components you want to install.
2. It appears that Source Forge is having some difficulties lately,
because I am having trouble downloading, it freezes for long
periods of time -- I don't believe this is related to the new
install routine because I am using it with another project and
also because I am also having difficulties downloading from Source
Forge with Mozilla.
Now for some highlights of this release:
1. OSGi security permissions -- now it is possible to run Oscar with
the security manager enabled! I am fairly confident in the
security features, but I surely would appreciate some stress tests!
2. An improved HttpService, thanks to Rob Walker.
3. A handful of new bundles.

I have released an updated version of Oscar. This is new release is mostly minor and corrects a few issues with bundle updating; it turned out that bundle updating only worked for bundles that had embedded JAR files. I have released a new version of Oscar today. One of the biggest
changes is the support for updating a bundle and refreshing its exported
packages via the PackageAdmin service of the OSGi 2.0 specification;
this is the first step (of many) towards 2.0 compliance.
I tested the release on my machine and all of my bundles worked
correctly; there wasn't much in the way of third party testing (except
for Yann!) so it is quite possible that some problems still lurk, so
please let me know if you run into any. The new release is backwards
compatible with profiles from the last version.
