My current priority is to remove the splash screen all together.
See, since version 5.9 the splash screen only shows up for like two seconds even on the slowest PC's. This value can easily be halved if I get some threading problems right.
If this value drops below one second on a C2D machine with a hard drive, it's just not worth it to even bother loading and painting the splash screen. ;)
