I use DevC++ 4992 with Allegro 4 on Windows XP.
With this combination I try to learn C++. I have no IT-background.
Up till now my experiences are very positive. As a matter of fact that positive that I am very reluctant to switch to a real different environment.
I checked the new Allegro 5. First impression: Complete new library, where everything
has been altered. Seems a lot more complicated than Allegro 4. For now I do not want to use Allegro 5.
My question: Can you use the newest DevC++ releases with Allegro 4 ??
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
I got an Allegro 4.4.2 precompiled binary for MinGW 4.5.2 (from allegro.cc/files) to work with Orwell Dev-C++ 4.9.9.3 with minimal tinkering.
The same Allegro failed to initialize on the newest Dev-C++ releases, though.
EDIT:
It appears as though MinGW 4.5.2 was used through Orwell Dev-C++ 5.0.0.3, so that may be the one to use. I haven't tested it with anything other than 4.9.9.3, though.
