Let me begin by expressing my appreciation and admiration for the terrific package which is ORS! I recently downloaded the latest version from sourceforge, and installed it on a Linux/Apache system. Very smooth install. The only problems I had related to my need to understand and set some of the options properly. I am using the system to schedule an airplane which is jointly owned by 4 partners. Even the partners liked the system, considering it to be equal to the commercial service ScheduleMaster. Beyond scheduling, we also have a need to keep track of the plane's usage, so we can compute the invoices to each partner. I looked around, and was not able to find anything suitable. After thinking about it for several days, I decided to try and modify ORS to add the features I wanted. Basically what I have done is add 6 new fields to the u<##>.csv files. These fields can be populated with data when editing a "signup" to add the actual usage information. Next I added a report to show the values in a table. Later I will add more reports as needed. The fields I added were: "tach start", "tach end", "oil added", "fuel start", "fuel end", and "notes". All the code changes are conditional on a new configuration variable "airplane_accounting" added to config.php. The changes appear to work so far, with no problems apparent in the base functionality as of yet. The changes could be generalized by adding more configuration variables, for example, to allow the new fields to be renamed. If there is any interest in adding these features to the base package, I am happy to contribute my code once fully bebugged. -- Best Regards, Robert Laughlin Join the fight against spam, support the do-not-email list. |

Thanks to your many requests, we've had a productive couple of months. Version 3.0 of the online resource scheduler is now released and ready for your use! Here's the "press release"... For all the developers (Chris, Jeffrey and myself) I thank you for your suggestions and interest! -Jeremy -------------------- Easy to use, simple to set up, and Boat Loads of features! And it's FREE!?! Yep, the Share-ware Online Resource Scheduler (Share-ware ORS - http://ors.sourceforge.net ) has released version 3.0 and is quickly becoming a popular solution to setting up an on-line resource scheduling system. Thanks to the large number of people who have given us such great feedback, and the addition of another developer on the project, we've had some nice improvements in the ORS project. Version 3.0 includes the usual bug fixes, stability enhancements and database improvements but also a bunch of new features including, among other things: - Forgotten password functionality: user can have a login link sent to the e-mail address on their account - Configurable color for login and signup forms and menus - Improved support of resource monitoring (e.g. limit to time range) - Improved handling of restricted-user signups - Improved rule-violation testing and hard rule enforcement - More explicit information given when a signup is rejected by hard rule enforcement - Testing for invalid user information (e.g. duplicate name) - Testing for invalid configuration options settings - Configurable time-block lengths in day and week view - Logging of IP addresses for security - Improved diagnostics for installation on "difficult systems" And those are just the NEW features! Check out http://ors.sourceforge.net/features.html for all the features and a demonstration. js...@us... Share-ware ORS - On-line Resource Scheduling http://ors.sourceforge.net |

Dear ORS-interested user: We are in the process of testing the next release of the ORS and we'd really appreciate your help. We've set up a copy of the beta code on a web site. Find your way to: http://orsbeta.dreamhost.com/ There are only two users initially set up: "administrator" and "shaver". Both have a password of "domybeta". Do WHATEVER you want to the scheduler (add/change users, add/change resources, change configuration even) and see if you can find bugs other than those listed in the current bugs page or if you find things which really tick you off. All we ask is: (1) Please don't be malicious - don't try to crack into the overall web site or post offensive things. That will just make me angry and I hate being angry. (2) PLEASE don't change the passwords for either of the two primary users (or change them back to "domybeta" if you do). Also, please don't add a configuration password. If you do either, I'll have to FTP in and change those back by hand - And then I'll be mad and there'll be no more biscuits for you! (3) Note that we've disabled e-mail sending so people don't do things like changing the administrator e-mail to "pre...@wh...". Instead of sending e-mail, it will display the e-mail on the screen. This is a FEATURE not a BUG! Any bugs discovered in the BETA version can be contributed to the special Beta Bug tracker at: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=581410&group_id=74275&func=browse (you'll have to log into sourceforge to submit items). If you try the scheduler and discover something is REALLY WRONG with it (e.g. someone found a great way to crash it) send me an e-mail at js...@us.... Thanks for your help! -Jeremy Shaver js...@us... We have just identified a potentially annoying bug relating to the encryption of the administrator and/or configuration settings passwords. It is possible that the administrator account and/or the configuration settings pages could be locked out from anybody's access. Release C of version 2003-04-15 fixes this potential problem. In addition, the FAQ in the installation instructions now contains help regarding how to re-gain access to the account and configuration page should an old version of the ORS show this problem. You can download the new release from SourceForge.net by following this link: <https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=74275&release_id=155250> or browse Release Notes and ChangeLog by visiting this link: <https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=155250> Regards, Jeremy js...@us...
