is there any easy way to change the color scheme without having to worry about future updates? does this need to be submitted as an enhancement request? Thanks.

The not-yet-released next version of the scheduler has configuration settings for the form colors. The demo (see http://ors.sourceforge.net/demo.html ) is already running this new version and although it won't let you CHANGE the colors (demo version locks out configuation changes), you can see in the configuration page that you can change the login form color, menu color, and calendar head color.
In the released version, you can only change the color of the signups themselves (see the gray.gif, green.gif, yellow.gif, and red.gif files - these are single-pixel gifs with the appropriate color - sorry about the names!).
We will probably be releasing the new version sometime soon. Maybe the next week.
