A key feature of Open Reports is its ability to email a
scheduled report to one or more recipients. Sometimes,
for data security, bandwidth, or archiving/auditing
purposes, it would be advantageous to have the
additional option to have a copy of the generated
report stored on one or more of the following:
- A local (or potentially ftp/sftp) file system
- the open reports database itself

A suggested Implementation would add an additional
parameter to the General Settings, called "Report
Generation Directory Base", similar to the Base
Directory used for the report definitions. Generated
Reports would be written here (or in a nominated
sub-directory specified by the user in the schedule
generation dialog) with a naming convention along the
lines of
<timestamp>-<reportname>-<scheduleUser>.<extension>

The suggested implementation for storage in the
openreports database would be similar; a new table
would be added to the system called report_generation
with columns containing:
- report id
- generation_timestamp
- generation_user
- parameters_used (perhaps as a blob, or text/xml )
- report_format (pdf, text, xls, ...)
- report_blob

Users could invoke the additional output options from
the existing existing scehduler dialog box with a few
additional checkboxes added.

An initial version of this has been implemented in OR 2.2 Pro.
