Hi everyone,

we long hesitated to post here, as it appeared to be bad style to introduce your own project in somebody elses project forum. But it is hard not to notice, that OpenReports was abandoned by its creators. We wrote to Eric about this, but received no reply.

OpenReports (pro) used to be our preferred reporting platform for several years and we even developed custom extensions for our customers.

After realising, there would be no further releases, and beeing unable to find any suitable alternative on the market, we began our own project ReportServer.
Starting from scratch, we were able to incorporate modern web frameworks like GWT and ext to provide users with a flexible, yet powerful interface.

After using ReportServer with our existing customer base, mostly from the financial sector, for more than two years, we just recently released it as opensource here on sourceforge.

With ReportServer we tried to keep the balance between the simplicity and ease of use of OpenReports (e.g., simple query reports, easy user interface, support of various reporting libraries such as jasper, birt, jxls) and the requirements of a modern business intelligence plattform.

If you are in the same situation as we were, and are looking for a replacement for OpenReports, you should take a look. We even have a solution to import your existing OpenReports data.

Our project page is located right here on sourceforge
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dw-rs/

There is also an online demo, which allows you to get a first impression, without downloading or installing anything.

If we could spark your interest, we would be thrilled if you let us know what you think. You can do this either via our forum (http://reportserver.datenwerke.net/forum, which has been set up only recently, so do not hesitate to use it just because its rather empty) or directly via mail to info@datenwerke.net.

Yours faithfully,
Thorsten
