Aha! - this looks like the 'operator new doesn't work with templates
with gcc version < 2.95.2' compiler bug. I'm afraid the fix is to
upgrade to gcc version 2.95.2. I upgraded mine using the rpms from the
rawhide section of the redhat ftp site.
