did you install the latest orbit developement package. Its been a while but I believe I uninstalled all orbit packages. sometimes i have to force it because gtk or some other gnome thingy depends on orbit. Then install orbit and the orbit development package, then install and compile the cpp package. you might have to do part of this from a telnet session because you might loose gtk. good luck -----Original Message----- From: orb...@li... Consider the following function: char* SomeFunction () { CORBA::String_var vString; vString = "Some text, just example"; return vString._retn (); } If you try do something with a CORBA string returned by SomeFunction () you'll get nasty error and program will shut down. The reason for that is call of Properties::free () inside the String_var::_retn () method in orbitcpp_smartptr.hh, which frees the string supposed to be returned. I think there is no sense to create a patch. For I don't have access to CVS, please somebody fix it. -- Czatuj, wyslij sms-y, sprawdz poczte Zainstaluj OnetKomunikatora [ http://ok.onet.pl/ ] |

Make sure that once you've done all that, you "make distclean" in the orbitcpp source, then re-run configure with the paths to your new ORBit installation. The best way of ensuring that you aren't still using the old ORBit version is to delete it from your system entirely. --=20 Sam Couter | Internet Engineer | http://www.topic.com.au/ sa...@to... | tSA Consulting | OpenPGP key ID: DE89C75C, available on key servers OpenPGP fingerprint: A46B 9BB5 3148 7BEA 1F05 5BD5 8530 03AE DE89 C75C |

So there must still be header files from an older ORBit-version hanging around on your system. Maybe the old header files were not in /usr/include? Try "find / orb.h" if you don't find them. If that doesn't help remove all traces of ORBit from your system and install again. The bug causing your trouble was that in some header file ORBit says there is CORBA_sequence_CORBA_any_struct but there are no functions to work on that struct. So at some other place the output of stubs and skels for sequence<any> is suppressed and in the end there is no working sequence<any> at all. The simple solution was to put #if 0 around the wrong definition in the ORBit-header-file. Unfortunately I don't remember the filename at the moment. Anyway that's just an old story. With a working ORBit 0.5.8 everything is fine. Martin. |

Just a guess, but did you install ORBit-devel-0.5.8? -----Original Message----- From: orb...@li... [mailto:orb...@li...]On Behalf Of Samuele Gallazzi Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2001 4:34 AM To: orb...@li... Subject: [orbitcpp-list] again problems... hi, I re-need help!! I installed orbitcpp-0.30.1 package following instructions of the INSTALL file but executing 'make' I receive a strange output concluding with some errors. I've already asked for this and I've been suggested to install ORBit 0.5.8. I did it: the ORBit version I have now is the 0.5.8, installed overriding the previous 0.5.7 forcing the destination dir with the option --prefix=/usr instead of the default dir /usr/local. I believe this procedure can be considered correct... And so, why did I receive again an error output with the make command?? I'm working on a i686-pc-linux-gnu and I've already installed Flex 2.5.4, libIDL 0.6.8, glib 1.2.10. Please, help me!! Thanks a lot. hi, I re-need help!! It is my understanding that when you call orbit-idl --lang=c++ file.idl ORBit will look in its backenddir location for a shared library called liborbit-idl-c++-backend.so. It will dynamically open this library and execute the interface methods provided by it. It appears that for some reason the dynamic open of this library is failing on your system. Dynamic open is performed by use of the dlopen() and dlsym() functions from libdl. dlopen() can only work if the library is built in position independent code (PIC) format. From your message > ** WARNING **: Module load failed: ld.so.1: orbit-idl: fatal: relocation To me this indicates that the liborbit-c++-backend.so library was NOT built in a position-independent (relocatable) code format or it is somehow corrupted. I cannot guess more. My only suggestion is ensure that your operating system and compiler can build shared libraries which can be opened with dlopen(). You can test this by trying the code sample shared_lib2 found at http://www.linuxprogramming.com/SourceLib/Basics/ You may need to modify the make flags for your compiler as the example is for a linux system. What is your operating system, compiler, libc version, libdl version? This information may help someone who knows more. -- Rich On Wed, 04 Jul 2001 18:51:32 Marga wrote: > This message was sent from Geocrawler.com by "Marga" > <ma...@gb...> > > > I have check that I have not two versions of > libstdc++. > > I have recompiled all the necessary for ORBit-cpp > to work and nothing, ?? > > Marga > --------------------------------------- > > I think you have two different versions of > libstdc++ now. > > The C13 stuff is just the mangled C++ function > entry point names. > > Does the compiler work on other programs with > shared libraries? > > > > > On Wed, 20 Jun 2001 19:02:16 Margarita de Cabo > wrote: > > Hi again, > > > > I have done my libsdtc++ a sahred library, I > have recompiled ORBit-cpp > > with no problems, I hava installed a new version > of gcc (2.95.3), and I > > am still > > having problems with no found symbols in > liborbit-idl-c++-backend.so. > > In my first atempts the no found reference was > C13__ ..., or something > > like that, now the error is: > > > > orbit-idl -lc++ > > > --backenddir=/usr/local/packages/ORBit-cpp/sparc-sun-solaris/lib/orbit-idl > > prueba.idl > > > > ** WARNING **: Module load failed: ld.so.1: > orbit-idl: fatal: relocation > > error: file > > > /usr/local/packages/ORBit-cpp/sparc-sun-solaris/lib/orbit-idl/liborbit-idl-c++-backend.so: > > symbol __pure_virtual: referenced symbol not > found > > > > ** CRITICAL **: file orbit-idl-driver.c: line 50 > (orbit_idl_to_backend): > > assertion `binfo && binfo->op_output' failed. > > > > ** WARNING **: prueba.idl compilation failed > > > > I need help, I am desperate. > > > > Thanks for your time. > > > > Marga > > > > > > begin:vcard > > n:de Cabo;Margarita > > tel;fax:34-983-423667 > > tel;work:34-983-423660 ext:25536 > > x-mozilla-html:TRUE > > org:Universidad de Valladolid;TSCIT > > version:2.1 > > email;internet:ma...@te... > > adr;quoted-printable:;;Edificio de las Nuevas > > Tecnolog=EDas =0D=0ACamino del Cementerio > > s/n ;Valladolid;Valladolid;47011;Espana > > x-mozilla-cpt:;0 > > fn:Margarita de Cabo > > end:vcard > > > > > > _______________________________________________ > orbitcpp-list mailing list > orb...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/orbitcpp-list > > > > Geocrawler.com - The Knowledge Archive > |

Hello, I'm using ORBitcpp v.0.30 (I have installation problem with v. 0.30.1). When I launch orbit-idl -l c++ file.idl it gives me an error message: "** WARNING ** : module load failed: /usr/lib/orbit-idl/liborbit-idl-c++-backend.so:cannot open shared object file:no such file or directory ** CRITICAL ** : file orbit-idl-driver.c: line 50 (orbit_idl_to_backend):assertion 'binfo && binfo -> op_output' failed. ** WARNING ** : file.idl compilation failed" When I launch orbit-idl --backenddir/usr/local/lib/orbit-idl -l c++ file.idl (this directory contains the file liborbit-idl-c++-backend.so) it giaves another error message: "Indentation screwup. This is a bug. Aborted (core dumped)." What's the problem? Thank you for the answer. MAtteo |

I think this is a problem with the version of ORBit you have installed. I believe you require ORBit 0.58. See the thread from 07/01/2001 at the orbitcpp-list archives from earlier this week http://www.geocrawler.com/lists/3/SourceForge/835/0/ On Wed, 04 Jul 2001 03:04:21 Samuele Gallazzi wrote: > hi, > I need help!! > I installed orbitcpp-0.30.1 package following instructions of the INSTALL > file but executing 'make' I receive a strange output concluding with some > errors. hi, I need help!! I installed orbitcpp-0.30.1 package following instructions of the INSTALL file but executing 'make' I receive a strange output concluding with some errors. Why does this happen?? I'm working on a i686-pc-linux-gnu and I've already installed Flex 2.5.4, libIDL 0.6.8, glib 1.2.10, ORBit-mt 0.5.7. Please, help me!! Having said the above I should also mention that you might experience problems with two coexisting versions of ORBit - unfortunately I don't know whether ORBit 0.5.7-3 is binary compatible with ORBit 0.5.8 so you can replace it. Anyone else? If not, install the newest ORBit version to a _completely_ different path than the existing one. Include the the binary-path to your PATH- and the library-path to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH-variable or alternatively use the orbitcpp-configure-options --with-orbit-xxx. Martin. |

Hi John! I'm afraid you will also need the lastest version of ORBit (>=0.5.8) to build orbitcpp. Martin. I am trying to build orbitcpp 0.30 and I am getting an error and many warnings while building the test code. I am running RH 7.0 with ORBit0.5.7.3 and ORBit-devel-0.5.7.3. If someone could provide some assistance it would be appreciated. thanks the following is the error output: ake[3]: Entering directory `/public/orbitcpp-0.30.1/test/everything/generated' gcc orbit-idl is the IDL compiler. Try orbit-idl --lang=c++ <file.idl> This will generate C and C++ stubs and skels for you which you can then use to make your clients and servers. The stubs are for the client and the skels provide an empty implementation of the server. Before you can make use of the server you need to provide some activation method to start the server when needed, so you need to read about the OAF (Object Activation Framework) or libgnorba. You can find this info on the gnome web site www.gnome.org. There are various flags for orbit-idl which affect what results from compilation. try orbit-idl --help On Thu, 28 Jun 2001 00:11:56 Matteo Airaghi wrote: > Hello, > I'd like to know how, after I wrote an IDL interface, I can compile in > C++ this interface with the ORBit IDL compiler for c++. > Thank you for the answers and sorry for the elementary question (I'm a > beginner...). > > > > _______________________________________________ > orbitcpp-list mailing list > orb...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/orbitcpp-list > |

Hello, I'd like to know how, after I wrote an IDL interface, I can compile in C++ this interface with the ORBit IDL compiler for c++. Thank you for the answers and sorry for the elementary question (I'm a beginner...). |
