Oops.  When I committed the addition, I also accidentally committed a
bunch of incredibly experimental changes (moving toward more compliance
with the mapping spec).  Fortunately the changes I made shouldn't break
anything, but you'll see a bunch of extra debugging output that you can
ignore.

This will hopefully be fixed up in the next couple days.  It probably won't
be worth it to make any changes to the source tree; things will be in a 
state of flux for the next little while.
