With Favicons turned on I am getting duplicate icons, duplicate position counter numbering, and duplicate alternate search engine options (at top of search results page).

Turning the features off/restarting/turning them back on does not fix it. Removing OG and reinstalling does not fix it.

I had to install/uninstall and I think this is at the root of the problem. Is there txt code I can check for duplicate entries.

Advice??

    UPDATE:

DId a complete UNINSTALL of FF, cleaned registry, then clean reinstall - problem persists. Obviously the addon has settings somewhere. Can someone point me there?

It looks like OG has activated twice on that page. That can happen if you reload another google page and switch quickly or something but I guess something else is going wrong because it keeps happening. Can you copy the URL of one of these pages? Can you check that you don't have other extensions which could affect it, like CustomizeGoogle or Greasemonkey scripts?

    No other extensions I'm afraid.

Does OG store what to do and what not to do with a Google search somewhere locally on my HD? I am guessing there's a duplicate instruction set that (I hope) is txt editable.

    HERE"S A *HUGE* CLUE:

If I am LOGGED IN to Google, the duplicate FAVICONS and POSITION COUNTERS does not happen!!!

It only happens when I am not logged into Google!

I can't reproduce this, when I am logged in or not. Could you please give the google URL (location) you are at when this happens?
OG does store what to do locally (it is javascript) but you should be getting the same results as everyone else.

Hey Phoglenix. Not sure if I am understanding your request. The URL I am using is (alternatley) www.Google.com and www.Google.ca

    Does that help?

Unfortunately no, that doesn't help. I was expecting perhaps a weird url that would give hints about why it isn't working.
Do you have any other extensions installed which may be interfering? That behaviour may be caused by the google page loading twice, either on the current tab or on another tab.

    I appreciate your tenacity ... :-p

I definitely looks like the page loading twice (or elements of it certainly). The first set of alternate search engines, site icons, and numbers load, then a second. The status line activity supports that.

On the extensiosn side of thing, I'm pretty lean: Norton IPS, Apture, ReadItLater, FlexBar.

One 'weirdness' I did notice is that I can get to the OG options two ways. Post install there is, of course, a menu item on the Firefox Tools menu called 'Optimize Google Options.' There is also acccess to options via Tools > Addons > Extensions and scrolling down to the extension entry and choosing OptimizeGoogle options button.

What I noticed was depending on which way I went to options, the feature selections - what is checked on or checked off - were not the same. For example if I went to options via "Tools > OptimizeGoogle Options and chose to turn ON "Web > Disable WebSearch wiki" it might be turned OFF if I went to options via "Tools > Addons > Extensions" and chose the Options button on the extension list.

Why are there two routes to the options if they are not in fact the same?

I have since synched both lists but I suspect the horse is already out of the barn since my problemo isn't rectified.

You mentioned that Javascript. Can it be located and deleted to effectively reset everything local? Or are my settings stored globally for Google?

Having two sets of options which can be changed independently is very weird - not something I can reproduce with one OG install.
Try opening your profile folder (help -> troubleshooting -> profile directory -> open folder) and looking in the extensions folder. There should be just one optimizegoogle@optimizegoogle.com folder. Check the other folders to see if any others have reference to optimizegoogle or customizegoogle.
