Hi all.. My previous message about using a combination of trap and active polling comes from our existing Nagios system that I put together 8 years ago. It uses a joystick button monitor daemon that issues 'submit_check_result' to the external commands file of nagios when the button state changes. The submit_check_result changes the state of a service that calls a check_joystick plugin that runs every 5 minutes. The effect of this is that there is an instant alert when the button state changes plus continuous polling to keep me informed as to when the problem returns to a normal state. With SNMP traps, I am concerned that I could miss the trap and not be informed when one of these important monitors goes into alert. Perhaps an option in the snmp trap rules could be to have the trap attached to an existing service, like the submit_check_result.. Would others find this useful? Regards, Rob |
