Oh, so if I comment them out and do an "make oldconfig" things will work.

Does the 2.5.44 oprofile support have RTC mechanism? My laptop is a Dell 
4100 that has a bios that the kernel recognize as incompatible with the 
Local APIC stuff, so it looks like the performance monitoring hardware 
can't be used by this kernel. Doesn't the timer mechanism also use the 
local APIC?
