Oh, so if I comment them out and do an "make oldconfig" things will work. Does the 2.5.44 oprofile support have RTC mechanism? My laptop is a Dell 4100 that has a bios that the kernel recognize as incompatible with the Local APIC stuff, so it looks like the performance monitoring hardware can't be used by this kernel.
