A couple years ago or so, I posted up a patch that allowed 64-bit
binaries on ppc64 to be handled properly by oprofile. This fix relied
on a (at the time) new BFD function called bfd_get_synthetic_symtab. I
put a check for this function in m4/binutils.m4. It was brought to my
attention recently that if configure is run with '--with-binutils=dir'
and there is NO binutils devel package installed in the "usual"
location, this binutils.m4 will fail. The attached patch fixes that

With this patch, Daniel Hansel reported that he gets a compile error on
32-bit platform (which I did not test on). I see the problem -- I
incorrectly changed the way I was compiling the test program so it
didn't do the link step. Testing a fix now and will post a fix later
today or tomorrow.
