If you are able to recompile the code with entry/exit callouts, then the "hookit" support in the Performance Inspector project: http://perfinsp.sourceforge.net/hookit_linux.html
might provide the desired support.  It should produce reports that include cycles or instructions by thread that can be viewed by Visual Performance Analyzer.
