This is a really exciting project, and one that is greatly
needed. Great start.

There is another team (Tapster Rock MPXJ) that is
reverse engineering the MS Project File format and has
also posted the info on Source Forge. If you can add
this ability to read the ubiqutous .mpp file format. Adding
this feature to Open Workbench will be a logical
alternative for large numbers of folks who need to be
aware of shared project plans but who's use does not
justify purchasing the expensive MS Project software.
The MPXJ project resides at mpxj.sourceforge.net

If there is anyway that I can help. Please let me know.

Excellent lead Dan, if indeed mpxj can do what it claims:
"MPXJ supports read only access to MPP files produced by
Microsoft Project 98, Microsoft Project 2000, Microsoft
Project 2002, and Microsoft Project 2003."

Then OWB should be able to open .mpp files directly - what a
    bonus that would be!!

MPJX stuff works really well for what I have used it for and
the support from them is great. This is a logical extension as
not every user will want to save their MPP files into XML -
indeed many users still use older versions of MS project.
These 2 products are a very logic fit.
