[WWdevel] Backporting changes

I see that you have recently backported to rel-2-2-dev a number of  
changes, but I'm a little confused.  Now that 2.2 has been released,  
I don't see why the 2-2-dev release should be changed.  Wasn't this  
supposed to be for the last-minute changes needed for 2.2, and the  
main HEAD branch was for continued development that was not part of  
2.2?  Since 2.2 is out, shouldn't we just be using HEAD until we get  
ready for rev-2-3-dev in preparation for the 2.3 release?

Just curious.
