This is jsMath's fault.  The Mac version of MSIE just barely runs 
jsMath as it is, and there are some hacks in there to make it work at 
all.  One of them is that if you update the page too fast, MSIE 
crashes, so I had to slow it down.  The screen flashes because the 
pauses let the browser get around to redrawing the screen in between 
the updates.

Since MicroSoft is no longer supporting MSIE on the Mac, I see no 
reason to work too hard to support it.  Safari is superior to MSIE on 
the Mac, anyway.  MSIE is pretty crippled on the Mac.  I was amazed I 
could get jsMath to run on it at all.
