Just checking in to see if this group is active. Hoping to get involved in some open source ux work, having a look around to see where the active projects are and what they're up to. Martin |

Here's a draft of the requirements for a generic email blaster. Please let me know what is in your product but not in the generic requirements. This delta could be either: 1) something which is missing from one of the essential requirements. eg. something that all email blasters should do. 2) Something non-essential (a bell or whistle) Joel |

My goal, and that of everyone in the OpenACS breakout group that did initial work on this, is to use this very specific item as the seed for a reusable process. All of the documents should come from templates (or templates should be backed out of the documents), the processes should be documented, etc. Putting [1] and [2] together from your email, what we need to do next for OpenWebGui is to complete the functional specification for our hypothetical generic email blaster. We have a draft from flossusability.org, but it should accomodate the initial participating projects, OpenACS and CivicSpace. It should also be in a standard document format and be derived from a template. So my question to the bigger list is, is there any kind of consensus on a standard functional specification document? I tend to use MS Word (now OpenOffice) as the medium; I've found Steve McConnell's work to be the best starting templates (http://www.construx.com/resources/cka/, but what used to be a good resource has gotten less and less useful as stuff is withdrawn and/or locked behind passwords and memberships; e.g., made _less usable_). What are other people using? Which website is the best clearinghouse for document templates? Joel |

Yeah, I'm down with that. Kieran would be too. And I've got the support of Dries from the Drupal community as well, so I think we should start working on a plan and develop real tasks and make this happen all open-sourcey, like sooner than later. What kind of results do we hope to get from this? For my own part, developing a unified admin UI is just one component of my goals (I'm doing that for Drupal already). I also want to develop a rich and easy to follow process for open source usability studies & development. I've got a lot of ideas about this and would like to see how we could come up with real-world practices that people can use to get usability into their work *much* sooner. I would also like to rename heuristic evaluation. The term does nothing but make usability less accessible. Even though I "get it", the words always trip me up -- I can't imagine it does much for marketing our efforts to evangelize usability. I'm interested in this -- and intend to work on unifying UI elements like metaphors, etc, between WordPress & Drupal/CivicSpace. I do graphics -- so how can we get this started? It's not so much dead as in a larval stage. We need at least one each graphics person (you?) and usability person, including moderate committments of time, before we can get going. The management (me) and OS projects are standing by for this. * Floris Lambrechts <flo...@gm...> [02May05 09:02]: > I'm interested in joining the mailing list for this project. > > However, by browsing the web pages I get the feeling the project is > not very much alive. Floris, Our open-source project, CiviCRM, is in active development - and we have volunteered to be one of the 'demonstration' projects for the openwebgui process. The timetable for our project is such that we will be actively working on the mass-mailer component starting in May or June. If the webgui project hasn't gotten off the ground by then, you may want to explore contributing some of your usability/XHTML/CSS expertise directly. You can learn more about our project at: http://objectledge.org/confluence/display/CRM/CRM+Project+One+Pager And you can join our mailing list at: http://lists.objectledge.net/mailman/listinfo/crm-dev Regards, Dave Greenberg On 4/19/05, Floris Lambrechts <flo...@gm...> wrote: > I'm interested in joining the mailing list for this project. >=20 > However, by browsing the web pages I get the feeling the project is > not very much alive. I'm interested in joining the mailing list for this project. However, by browsing the web pages I get the feeling the project is not very much alive. Is this correct? I'm very interested in usability, I have worked on open source stuff before and I'm experienced in (X)HTML and CSS. Sincerely Floris Lambrechts |
