If you've been following SourceForge activity at all, you've probably
noticed that after allowing the service's feature set to languish for
some years, the developers have made many tangible improvements to the
site over the last several months.
One of the most significant of these is what they call "hosted apps".
This makes some popular open source Web-based tools available for use by
SourceForge projects. And one of the hosted apps now available is the
popular "trac" project management tool.
Now, I think most would agree that SourceForge's "trackers" (what it
calls its bug/patch/etc. reporting and management facility) kind of
suck. They're missing many features common to modern tools in this
space; and the improvements SourceForge is making to this service (the
"Tracker Beta" you can opt into on the site) are, IMO, quite modest.
So, I am seriously considering migrating bug and task tracking to trac.
I've already enabled trac as a hosted app for OpenVRML. trac also
includes a wiki; and to familiarize myself with what it can do I've
started migrating Zack Smith's Windows build instructions to there:
<https://apps.sourceforge.net/trac/openvrml/wiki/BuildOpenvrmlOnWindows>
I've made several updates to its text for consistency with what's on the
trunk now; but it still needs some more work.
If anyone has other ideas for good wiki topics, please chime in.
Anyway, I thought I'd let folks know this is probably coming. Anyone who
wants to tell me why migrating to trac is a horrible idea, please speak
up.
