We are trying to improve the performance of OpenVRML. The simplest step is increasing the buffer size in reads. I have put a big buffer into Doc but putting a larger buffer (cleanly) into the IOSTREAM used by Doc2 has me stumped. I've never tried to do this before. Anybody got any ideas. Also, we are looking at trying to defer the processing of some the texture files ( and the like ) until they are needed or even trying to use some asynchronous I/O portably between Windows and Unix ( and eventually Mac ). What about simplifying the actual geometry you are displaying until you are (visually) closer to the object?
