I think running this gui on a mac requires the user to authenticate his or her password like tunnelblick does. I think this prevents openvpn from using the drivers it requires to establish a tunnel. This is only a theory. I was not able to have openvpn establish a tunnel. A connection with the server was made with the client openvpn but I think there is a problem with openvpn using the tunnel driver. I think the user has to authenticate his/her password before openvpn can use the tunnel driver. Viewing the openvpn log there is only one log entry.

Currently you can only test this code on a intel mac since they have not fully released java 1.6 across all macs. They only have a sdk available for the intel mac machines.
