Hi, I'm not quite sure if I understood your question correctly. Are you asking about real-time video rendering? This is unfortunately too slow to be possible. But you can observe the effects of different module parameters using the GUI: There is a preview included in every filter/transition settings dialog and you can also open the preview window using the View menu. No, but the warnings are there for a reason. It means this isn't supported, and might break in the future. I didn't check recently but in the past things like this could prevent the automatic rebuild rules from working. Tom |

Hello - Are there any examples of real-time audio and/or video playback using openvip. I have an idea of how it might be done, but a worked example would be a better start. To be clear, by "real-time" I mean in a way that allows for real-time tweaking of module parameters during playback - not simply by playing buffered output popping out the end of a fixed network. Thanks, AG |

From upf/Makefile.am: SUBDIRS = tools/omniidl include src tools tests examples This is technically wrong, and newer versions of automake will complain about it. One fix would be to rearrange directories so that omniidl is its own top-level directory. Another possible fix would be to arrange it so that all of "tools" can be built first. Tom |

For my utter surprise the setting dialog file for my plugin is not being = recognised by openVIP. I have used the following code to check/debug in = the settingsDialog. py file /code def LoadContent(self, plugin): """Loads settings dialog for plugin 'plugin'.""" classname=3DNone try: try: classname=3Dplugin+self.GetClass() wxMessageBox(classname) exec 'import settings_dlgs.%s%s' % (plugin, = self.GetClass()) classname=3Dplugin+self.GetClass() wxMessageBox(classname) except ImportError: wxMessageBox(plugin) exec 'import settings_dlgs.%s' % plugin classname=3Dplugin wxMessageBox(classname) except ImportError: wxLogError("Import Error: No settings available for '%s'." % = plugin) return False try: panel =3D eval('settings_dlgs.%s.getPanel(self,self.panel)' = % classname) except NameError: wxLogError(" Name Error: No settings available for '%s'." % = plugin) return False code/ I get the name of the file exactly as existing. But I get always import = Error. The supplied crossfade etc also give same expected nmessages but = it goes thru without any error. Is there any other list to which I need = to add my plugin class (same as python file)? This is perplexing. Regards Mohan |

Thanks for the report, I have noticed it now, too. It looks like there is a problem in converting the red line position into a frame number. I replied on 7th Aug, but did not get any further response. So repeating. 1. By the use of LogError function I could check on the input frame numbers. They start at #1 (not #0 as to be expected)and end at 1 less than the m+length. But immediately on this last frame I get message that unable to read frame #720 and shuts down with error. This happens with all transitions( including crossfade and sweep). Also the transition starts only after a little right of the Left boundary of transition in the GUI. The last frame also ends a little right of the right boundary. Is there a mismatch between GUI and Processing? 2. Removing in_vfawvi.dll made it not recognising avi file. So it did not force to ffmpeg to read it. Do you want any further testing? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Antonín Slavík" <ton...@po...> To: <ope...@li...> Sent: Friday, August 06, 2004 5:22 PM Subject: Re: [Openvip-users] Help > It looks like there is a bug in > src/core/video_transition_proxy.cpp module. It didnt work. I inserted a printf statement to print every frame number requested in my transition right at the begining of process, but could not see any output on screen, eventhough the transition is working. Pl advise where I can put a "message display" if such a thing exists. There must be someway of communicating in case of errors in parameters input. I find that the param check done at set params stage do not have access to frame and clip info so that some params which have limits depending on frame width, height or length of clip, I am unable to report such errors. Presently I am checking them and if outside then forcing them to be within acceptable limits. > > I'm also surprised with the message > "unable to read frame 720. Giving an empty frame". I using the GUI, Insert file in Edit panel, first time place at the begining of time line on top video file, then again insert file (the same file but at a later time on the lower video slot). Then insert transition in the overlap area. View by preview panel. It looks like there is a bug in src/core/video_transition_proxy.cpp module. To be sure, could you check the numbers of frames that the core asks your plugin for? Are they 0-719 or some other, too? I'm also surprised with the message "unable to read frame 720. Giving an empty frame". I think it didn't come from OpenVIP but rather from Video for Windows library. What happens if you use just ffmpeg (try to delete in_vfwavi.dll)? What does the sentence "I use same file as inputs but offsetted" mean? Do you try to make transition between two clips corresponding to the same video file? If yes, does it help to make a copy of the input file so that the two clips correspond to two different files? I found the documentation comment for create_thumbnails_generator a bit confusing. Right now it says: Note that the output is image representation in both cases, with dimensions \a width x \a height, with \a frames in total. How about changing this to something like: Note that the output is an image in both cases, consisting of \a frames total, arranged left-to-right. Each frame has dimensions \a width x \a height. I wasn't originally sure whether `width' referred to the width of an individual frame, or the overall width. Tom |

I wrote a simple little program using the highlevel API, and I found that it didn't run properly unless I ran it with pwd == openvip/bin. I think this code form networkload.cpp is to blame: #define OPENVIP_DTD_CATALOG "data/dtd/openvip-catalog.xml" [ ... ] xmlLoadCatalog(OPENVIP_DTD_CATALOG); I suggest that openvip_create() change to take a base directory as an argument, and then openvip look in <base>/plugins for its plugins and <base>/data for the DTDs. What do you think? Also, ideally openvip would have some kind of "make install" step... is use of bjam a permanent thing? I notice upf uses auto*. Anyway, if `make install' worked, we could put all this stuff in $libdir/openvip/. Tom |

Hi, I have tried both crossfade and sweep on a few files but I didn't manage to get any errors. Does the error occur with every input file or just with a single one? In case you are not able to upload your files anywhere could you find out (using the debugger) the module (i.e. the source file) which caused that error? I have tried using crossfade as well as sweep which are transitions included with pack and have the same result. It appears that I get this error in the preview stage when I click on the 720th frame i.e. just after transition. The error at last frame occurs after rendering with any transition. Since the original source avi file will be very large, sending will be a problem. Which exactly you want me to send? Shall I save timeline and send it? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Antonín Slavík" <ton...@po...> To: <ope...@li...> Sent: Monday, August 02, 2004 1:31 PM Subject: Re: [Openvip-users] Help > > > 2. You should probably install some codec package such as K-Lite Codec Pack, Codec Pack All in 1 etc. I've tried these two packages together with WM Player 9 which was able to play OpenVIP-rendered files (both avi and mpeg with default codecs) without any problems. > 2. I'm afraid it is not possible to solve this problem unless you send us the code of your transition together with a timeline or network which causes the error. 1.After rendering as either a avi file or as a mpeg file I tried to play = with windows media player and vdub. windows player stated its = unsupported format. Vdub stated some div3 etc... and can not play. To be = able to play with these players what codec setting need to be used? = Huffy did not work.=20 2. Eventhough in my transition plugin I only get data or wdata with = received pointers, when I try to view the transition with the GUI I get = a message stating that unable to read frame 720, ...blank frame. My = input has 720 frames and therefore should have frame numbers 0 to 719 = only. My transition should end at 719th frame. Why I am getting this = error? Also if I try to render I get an apology message right at the end = of rendering stating that it has to close down . Regards Mohan |

Hello, all compiled plugins reside in the "bin" directory (it is a subdirectory of the toplevel directory). If you run bjam from command line it always reports the number of succesfully updated targets and the number of targets which failed to compile. It is also possible to list all available plugins by running the script "list_plugins.py". Sir, Further to my last message, atlast I am able to compile my plugins = sources in VC++ as well as with bjam. I am able to compile both in dbug = and release modes of VC++. In case of bjam I see a lot of screen = activity and finally closing off. But I did not see any dll in the = openVIP plugins directory. If it compiled then where is the dll located? = If it did not compile then why all that screen activity for a long time? = If theres an error how do I get to know of it? I am not sure that I will = be able to catch it with break button as it goes very fast. regards Mohan |

As I have very little experience with VC++ I can't identify the problem. When compiling using bjam you should use bjam -sTOOLS=msvc for debug mode compilation and bjam -sTOOLS=msvc -sBUILD=final for release mode. > I have another problem. The numbering in case of a clip with 720 frames is really from 0 to 719. You should not ask for any frames outside this range. > In the setparams part of coding in case of > strings is the input case sensitive? Thanks for the reply I could see in the lists page. I have edited the = jamfile included in the distribution for windows and inserted those two = lines by typing afresh and not copied your entries. That file should be = correct as it is doing something when these two lines are = omitted/commented out. However as I mentioned in my another mail sent a = little while back, I could compile in my regular VC++ compiler in debug = mode by inserting a line #define DLL_BUILDING MODULE at the beginning of = code. Curiously same code could not be compiled in release mode. = Probably some definitions in either compiler configurations or jamrules = or some other file need to be setup as otherwise each plugin will be a = fat 450kb+ size. I have another problem. While previewing the working of the transition = with a clip of 720 frames long, I get a message stating could not open = frame 720, inserting a frame. This insertion is a blank frame with a lot = of noise. In such cases can it not insert the previous frame? Also why = this error at all? If the numbering of frames is from 0 the last will be = 719 and not 720. Since I always ask for the same frame number as = received in the call there should be no such error! In the setparams part of coding in case of strings is the input case = sensitive? If a parameter say "direction" is specified as "north" or = "North" or "NORTH" will be treated differently?=20 regards Mohan |
