Well, this morning I've fixed the web stats. There were two problems - SourceForge keep moving the permanent location of the main logs around, and also a load of binary data had somehow become appended to the end of our extract from the main logs, which screwed up Webalizer. So, can anyone tell me what 'Katriona' is? - it seems to be doing quite well in the User Agents list for July! A search on Google has not produced any hits... -- Andy Piper - Fareham, Hampshire (UK) squ...@uk... OpenUT for Linux http://openut.sourceforge.net |

Looking at the XQF site, there hasn't been a release for a couple of months so I guess it may be a short while yet before it is rolled into the full release. With your permission, I'll publish the diff on the OpenUT site in the next day or so... I nabbed it from something Joor Loohuis posted to the nedit mailing list, but I didn't test it very thoroughly before uploading the site in a hurry on Wednesday night. I'll look at sorting it out this weekend. Actually there's lots to do. I thought splitting the long single page would be a good thing, but inevitably it has created quite a bit of new work. Does anyone here know why table cells don't inherit the stylesheet description from the BODY? What is a workaround? (short of using <FONT>, which I refuse to do... As much for my benefit as everyone else ;-) - fix site stylesheet - tables are not inheriting the body style - Javascript search box should be hidden from non-JS-capable browsers - finish major FAQ update - reformat all documentation to new style (convert to DocBook??) - make documentation available in tarball and in text / other formats - sort out benchmarks page ;-) - add developer page with debugging HOWTO etc. - put news management into MySQL DB Anyone wanting to volunteer, please drop me a note, otherwise I shall press on gradually. -- Andy Piper - Fareham, Hampshire (UK) and...@fr... Before I head off on business until the weekend, I thought I'd point people at http://openut.sourceforge.net We've had a bit of a change ;-) At the moment a lot of the information is the same, and not quite as up-to-date as it should be. The main pieces of news are a few new links and two updated / new HOWTOs from Jeffrey Ingber - I'm sure everyone will join me in thanking him for producing them. Over the weekend I hope to finish updating everything to the new format and then get the updated FAQ published. Please send any comments to me, either directly or via the list(s). ... Well, we could prepare packaging of the setup from the cvs repository (the readme files need to be updated, but apart from that it should be ok). it provides a complete setup of 400A with 413apatch+updated ipdrv being applied during setup. Anyway, the 400A installer is kind of "broken" since you need to execute the installer by hand, so it probably would better to not point to the 400A installer (or provide a fixed one). --- Jeroen |

Yes, we should. We should also have the 402B patch still available from somewhere, since it is needed to run CVS OpenUT at the moment. It is possible to make arbitrary binaries available via anonymous FTP from SourceForge. We should make 402B available again through this method (I can see it in the http directory with the 413a patch, but it isn't easy to get to, and has a funny name - I don't have an account on ftp.sourceforge.net to move it somewhere more obvious). Give me a chance to update the site over the weekend and I'll try to make it all available. Andy -- Andy Piper - Fareham, Hampshire (UK) squ...@uk... OpenUT for Linux http://openut.sourceforge.net |

Well, http://www.php.net/links.php3 contains some links to websites dedicated to php. Btw I noticed "Getting & Using Databases at SourceForge" ( http://sfdocs.sourceforge.net/sfdocs/display_topic.php?topicid=11 ) on the Sourceforge Documents ( http://sfdocs.sourceforge.net/sfdocs/ ) website. Starting with a php news page, you could have a look at http://freshmeat.net/search.php3?query=php+news and check some things out, or we can write something ourselves (but if you're unfamiliar with php & mysql, you probably can better have a look at some others work first). If you need any help with the mysql & php stuff, let me know and I'l see what I can do. -- Best regards, Jeroen Janssen +++ Perdita thought that not obeying rules was somehow *cool*. I've been trying to promote the site in various ways - news items at games sites, and search engines. Not much luck, really. I've submitted news items to all of the major UT sites I've linked on the home page, none of whom have picked them up (UTWorld even has a news category for OpenUT, with nothing in it, which is a bit mad!). The Linux Games Tome has been down for a while and still seems to be recovering, so I forgive him ;-) unless he starts posting updates and ignores mine... ;-) Searching for OpenUT on the search engines still tends to draw a blank. I've gone through the submission process for a good nine or ten of them in the last fortnight, but nothing seems to be happening yet. As I said in my message to the devt list, I've taken the cvs2http script out of my crontab until further notice. I thought I'd sussed the issues last night, but seeing the site disappear at 8am local time this morning showed that something is still a bit wrong! Thinking about it we needn't have the script run as a cron job anyway. As a temporary measure I'll be running it as needed, as updates happen. It *does* work. Right, I've finished playing around with getting the website into CVS. There is a new CVS module, openut.sourceforge.net. Any updates to this module will be checked out and copied to the website directory every 12 hours. The script used to do this is in o.s.n/scripts/cvs2http.sh. Currently it runs out of my crontab. The webalizer cron job happens at 00:05 every morning so they should NOT clash (!). I've submitted the changes I made to the original cvs->http script from the Code Snippets library back to the maintainer. In case of emergency in the next 24 hours, i.e. the website disappears and I don't immediately restore it, there's a tarball of the site in /tmp/openut-web.tar.gz as a temporary mesure - this will need untarring to /home/groups/OpenUT. I'll monitor the situation, but I doubt I'll be able to act on any disasters until after work tomorrow. The UTCP site is also subject to this control I'm afraid, as I couldn't avoid cleaning the htdocs/utcp directory without making the script much more complex :( -- Andy Piper squ...@uk...
