That could be it - I hadn't thought of that, and it would
explain what I saw in terms of the symptoms. Everything
worked fine when I ran the script from a shell on SF, and
the whole of the script seemed to execute OK, but nothing
was checked out of CVS.

Well, the way I see it that means this idea of a scheduled
task is dead in the water. At least the script works
otherwise, so it can be used as a release mechanism for the
website.
