This is wildly incorrect. In fact there is a bug in the 1.0 release that reports this error when "use_syslog=n" but since the "n" is the default you can simply comment out the whole "use_syslog" line. When you need to set that use_syslog to true you want to use "y" there, not "1".
Anyway, I have spent two evenings to fix the most obvious and annoying bugs in the OpenUPSmart including these in the config file parser. Apply my patch #2014522 and you'll be OK.
