Hello everyone.

Probably a newbie error this.

Openuniverse compiles OK but then crashes wih the following messages:

r:~/downloads/openuniverse-1.0beta3% openuniverse
GenuineIntel cpu detected.
Katmai cpu detected.
openuniverse: image.c:2162: _mesa_unpack_ubyte_color_span: Assertion `dstComponents > 0' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

openuniverse looks great, so if anyone could help me that would be
super.

    Same problem here. Error message:

    openuniverse: image.c:2162: _mesa_unpack_ubyte_color_span: Assertion `dstComponents > 0' failed.
    Aborted (core dumped)

    I too have this problem.

    RedHat 6.2
    Voodoo3 3dfx Driver 2.3.5, Glide 3.2.60.16
    Mesa 3.2.2, GLUT 3.7, GLUI 2.0 beta

I traced the location of the problem down to the call in texfont.cpp at line 393 to glTexImage2D.
It appears the Mesa libraries are terminating in the middle of this call.

This is being called from the first invocation of Init() (several intermediate methods).
