Having calculated my taxes before using Open Tax Solver, I note that dependents are not accounted for on line 13A of the completed Federal 1040. The number that I entered in the GUI was 3. Although my dependents are over 17 and do not qualify for the Child Tax Credit (must complete worksheet), the line was left completely blank. My expectation would have been to add $500x3 or $1500 and add it to the value on line 13B. I expect that this issue would affect many users of Open Tax Solver.
Keep up the good work! OTS is getting better all the time.
Yes, as you noted, you need to fill out a worksheet for dependents, due to their ages and such, to come up with the value to enter in line 13a. Prior versions allowed entering the L13a value, and they correctly added to L13b, but did not print the 13a value on the PDF form. I added that printout now. So you can get this fix by re-downloading version 17.07 now.
