Yes, on ubuntu dapper I use that
I use scracthbox 0.9.8 with maemo 2.0 SDK. Now I tried in under x86 
platform.
I used the svn version on scrachbox without deb patches.
strace says:
access("/etc/ld.so.preload", R_OK)      = -1 ENOENT (No such file or 
directory
