it depends. as soon as syncml is usable, its probably better to use it
if your phone supports it. but until then or if your phone does not have
syncml  you should use irmc.

yes, syncml is more actively developed at the moment. But at the moment
the maturity of it is not as far as the irmc plugin (since it is not
usable right now).
