She has a Blackberry Playbook, I have no idea if this counts as a newer
model or not, what I personally know about Blackberry's could be written
on a postage stamp.  She's owned it for over a year, but it could be 2
years.

I tried the instructions at
http://www.netdirect.ca/software/packages/barry/installdebian.php
already, substituting ubuntu13.10 for "squeeze", are you saying instead
put "ubuntu12.04"?

What version of Blackberry does she use?  Barry can't sync the
new devices like the Z10.

You might try the Barry package repositories (http://netdirect.ca/barry)
and see if you can install them on 13.10.  The most recent set of
packages is for Ubuntu 12.04.
