The result is simple. If we want to update to KDE PIM 4 the we need a plugin for Akonadi and please don't call it kdexyz. Please call it Akonadi because the developers try to make it a FreeDesktop project. The idea is that Akonadi will be a storage back end (cache) for any PIM data incl. the Gnome stuff. So their goals are really ambitious but there will be no usable stuff before the 4.1 release.
