I contacted the OP off-list, as we both live in the same area and I had already contacted 3 of the local cellular providers regarding synchronization with KDE-PIM. Two of them invited me to bring the laptop and to try before I purchase. I just have not gotten around to it yet. So if here two of the three cellphone providers were willing to let me try, then I imagine that anywhere else the odds are not so bad. They are in the business of making sales, you know, and the competition is fierce.
