rsync and unison differ mostly that unison does two-way sync
and rsync only one direction at time.

unison also has a gui, but it's not made with popular desktop
toolkits which I would personally like to see happen some day.

I guess rsync is more inclined to machine-to-machine content 
transfers (like ftp mirroring) and unison more human 
initated (home dir files etc).
