This completes the feature creep for 3.1. Now we're looking for bugs. Between b6 and b7, we added membership editing, some better order administration tools (including a dump to database) and a more articulated static page editing section.

This is an out-of-the tarball installation of a single Symphero site. The installation notes have been moved online, to:

I have begun updating the documentation and placing it on symphero.net at http://www.symphero.net/devsupport/docs/ ... it currently has the 3.1 installation notes, and a piece on customizing query results. More to come!

Does anyone need a laptop? I just got a new one and would be willing to donate
my previous laptop to a developer on the project. It's not a Porsche but I have
found it really reliable. Here's the specs.

Symphero Object Server (SOS) version 1.0.0 has made it past the beta stage, and is available for download here at sourceforge! Designed and developed in OO PERL using Apache and a choice of open-source databases, it provides an API for programmers who wish to be able to store persistent objects and retrieve them without having to code to the database each time.

Whether it becomes the PERL man's Zope or a user interface and website generator is up to the community. Supported by BraveNewWorlds.com and released under the GPL.

The newest beta release of the Symphero Object Server (SOS), is available for download at sourceforge. The StorageHash level has been changed to speed up container storage, and the UI classes have been modified to make it easier to select custom editing interfaces for objects, and to make it prettier. :) Enjoy...

Speed optimizations for mysql, and a fix to allow the object server to correctly access databases with PERL 5.6.0. At this point, much of our future tech will run with these objects, so we're hoping they work for you too. :)

We've made some new View classes, and have clarified some interface issues. This release is primarily to show the work in progress.

The Symphero Object Server is a set of PERL object classes and interfaces designed to create distributed, persistent object storage at a high level of abstraction. Builds on IO::Socket and Java-style ObjectInput/Output Stream classes, and a Capability-based permission system that let programmers focus on the what and why of distributing information among servers, without having to constantly re-implement the how. Supported by BraveNewWorlds.com, a California-based software design firm specializing in web commerce and site management applications.

See the message boards for more information about the CGI scripts that got refactored, and what new features we plan to add in the next minor release. 3.0.3 seems stable, but bug reports are appreciated.

The newest version is 3.0.2 ... it addresses some of the things people have been saying on the lists here:

the "Publish" and "Create" parts of the installation have been speeded up by removing implicit file storage on "put" calls, and by reimplementing Pointer as a Subscriber rather than a straight transparent object. Spruced up the installation routine.

We currently have a release candidate, 3.0.1 available on our sourceforge.net page. It provides an easy-to-use installation utility that automates much of the process of setting up an eCommerce site.
