I have done it with iOS, so it's certainly possible but not trivial. /Rob |

Secondly I'm running v2.0 on necromanthus.com An endurance test for 2-4 weeks. After that I will replace 1.0 with 2.0 on all the other servers. best regards |

I guess I should have sent a notification to the list when 2.0 was released... Will try to remember that for future updates. BTW If anyone is using 2.0 I'd be interested in hearing how it's working for you. /Rob |

You are completely right, I didn't express myself too well in my first mail... I've been looking at the Java Service Wrapper Mauricio pointed me to and it looks pretty cool but what I really fear is my own scripts crashing for some reason. My java skills are better now but I'm still very far from expert level, the game scripts look pretty stable so far but I wouldn't dare saying they are 100% crash proof until they have been running without any problem for a few months with hundreds of players every day :) From a glance it seems I could catch java errors using the Java Service Wrapper, log them and restart the server if needed but I still have to read the doc and run some tests. Any further advice on how to best handle this is of course welcome :) Thank you Mauricio and Robert ! However, OpenSMUS is very stable and there's really no need to keep checking if it has crashed or not. I run a fairly busy server and it has never crashed on me. The exception is if you use server-side scripts that aren't as stable and might stop responding. In that case you need more sophisticated ways to check if the script has died since OpenSMUS usually keeps running even if a script crashes. /Rob |

Matse, you could use something like the Java Service Wrapper from Tanuki. Google for it: when it is installed you can integrate any java process or server (like OpenSMUS) with the initialization scripts of your physical server, so it is started when the machine boots or restarts, for example. And it also lets you define commands to start/stop/restart/check the status of the running process from the command line. Hi all, I have a multiplayer 3D racing game that is about to go live on a pretty big french game portal. I'm very happy with how the game runs and so is my customer. Now I just need a way to have some automatic process checking that the server is up and running, and restart it if not. What is the best approach for doing this ? I have opensmus running on a Linux server, I'm not familiar with linux nor servers, but my first guess would be some kind of "cron" process ? Any help welcome :) Thanks, Matse ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. |

If we use MySQL, do we need to setup the tables for the servers internal use in MySQL too or does it use HyperSQL anyway? There are two SQL connections you can configure in the .cfg file. You can continue to use hsqldb for MUS DB objects and authentication, and still connect to an external SQL server for other tasks. Or you can let OoenSMUS create and use authentication tables on the sqL connection as well, useful to share login info for multiple servers, for example.. Read the comments on Opensmus.cfg for more on this. Regards, Mauricio |

Hi, if you change the SQL backend in the config file, does this also affect the database used by the server internally or is it just for choosing a different SQL database for other uses? I.e. we want to use MySQL but the server uses HyperSQL. If we use MySQL, do we need to setup the tables for the servers internal use in MySQL too or does it use HyperSQL anyway? Best regards Stig |

The MUS protocol knows how to address this reply internally. That is one reason why you might want to raise the userLevel needed for it, so just administrators for example can issue some commands, for example. Regards, Mauricio |

Hi, I'm trying out the SQL functionality of OpenSMUS and I have one question: -When using the syntax sendNetMessage(“system.SQL.executeQuery”,”anysubject”, [#sql:"SELECT NAME,PHONE FROM ADDRESSES WHERE STREET=? AND NUMBER>?",#values:["California",1000]]) How does the server know to which user it should send the reply content? Is the IP adress of the sender automatically provided with the sendNetMessage()? E.g. I want a specific user to be able to make a query and get the result, but it must not be broadcasted to other users (which is the way I have used it in the past, but it doesn't work for my current purpose) Best regards Thomas |

Hi, tks. >> #DropUserWhenReconnectingFromSameIP = 1 > > We need to make it possible using a single text line in the OpenSMUS.cfg > Something like: > DropNewConnectionIfUserExists = 1 > > I hope you got the main idea. I looked at the code and the existing option works not only for dropped users. The problem is that it works at the movie-level, and not at the server level. For this a new setting will indeed be needed. Implementing it is not complex, maybe 10 lines or code or so following the implementation of the existing setting, but I am unable to do so right now (out of town, busy with other work.) Ping me back in 10 days if you still need it :) Or it can be a good job for someone lurking here on the list and waiting to get into OpenSMUS development. Tip: find the implementation of DropUserWhenReconnectingFromSameIP in processLogonMessage (MUSServer.java) and implement the new setting following it :) Regards, Mauricio |

This version has new dependancies, so make sure you include their .jar files as well in your classpath when launching the server. Robert, Mauricio, folks, Here is a (very useful) feature request: the ability to limit a single MUS connection per "username+password and/or IP" combination. In the previous Nebulae and current OpenSMUS this is not possible. best regards |

I suggest you have a look at the Flip framework which includes a FSM Driver to manage the network messages as a framework. Hi everbody, I am new on this list, so I would like to introduce myself: I am the founder of a small game development studio. We are developing kids and family entertainment. In 2003/2004 we developed two card games and used Nebulae for the multiplayer part. After some problems with our hosting (Nebulae stopped working every 5-15 Minutes) I am thinking of moving to rimuhosting and switch to OpenSMUS. Mauricio told me about the new 2.0 build... Is it possible to get this version for testing? Robert? ;-) I'm a classical Director developer so I can't help with the main developing process, but I hope I can help testing. Thanks in advance... The new functionality for making releases at SourceForge makes it much easier than before, so I think we can add an official 2.0 (maybe rc1?) build. Do you want to try it, Robert? Or I can do it in about 3 days, as my web access is limited now. Regards, Mauricio |
