How are stable releases indicated ? Is Version 1.1.4 the latest stable release ?

Yes it is but current CVS version 1.1.5 is pretty much stable and it has 
numerous improvements and bug fixes based on bug reports posted in this 
list and from the just concluded sipit 21 interop.   I strongly advise 
using CVS head instead.
