I took a look.  Most seemed to be 2013 or earlier.

ENGINE was a second-class citizen within OpenSSL.  Heck, most of the source base was a second-class citizen for a very long time.

Things Are Different now.  Honest. For example, GOST is now completely implemented as an engine, and not distributed with OpenSSL. 

Give it another chance :)  You'll probably like what you see, or at least dislike it less.
