I think it is quite simple to implement: (much more than the minidriver)
* Implement in an extension onCertificatesRequested to return all
certificates having a private key
* Implement onSignDigestRequested to prompt a dialog asking for a PIN and
sign a digest info.

However this API seems to be limited to ChromeOS
