No, the point is that the big players have no interest in the products you are looking for. They make their money with banks, telecoms and governments. They couldn't care less about interoperability and usability. And it's only very few big players and they are not interested in innovation unless it broadens their patent portfolio or allows an even better customer lock-in. But you can do it yourself: Write your own JavaCard Applet and put a product on the market. Time will tell if customers like it.
