The OpenRPG-GDE Project repository has been converted from CVS to SVN. CVS will no longer be worked on.
This project is also a potential merger into stick2xyz, a project that should become capable of on-the-fly rendering.
Finally, Chad (exodist) has given me permission to take over this project completely. I have decided not to change any of the code in SVN at the moment, noting that this project might merge with stick2xyz.
Kevin McBride, an assembly programmer, has come onboard to assist with the development of OpenRPG.
"I appreciate being given the privilege to join the OpenRPG developer team. I will write x86 assembly code that will make OpenRPG run optimally on Intel processors. Once I have picked up the knowledge on the ia64 architexture, I will write code for the ia64 architexture as well."
I have finals next week, but I was able to squeez in some activity.
Currently the code has been imported into the 'Source' module on cvs, only c++ so far. it actually compiles too :-D
new updated documentation is in the Documentation module.
a few new devlopers are joining the project as well.
I have been delayed in working additionally on this project, I am a month away from earning my AA in CIS computer programming, combine this with 2 jobs and a third side job and my time is limited, I intend to resume work in late june when things calm down, in the mean time I do intend to welcome any additional ideas or developers interested in the project.
We have gone through several months of inactivity due mostly to classes and busy developers, but we are going to overhaul our codebase and kick out lazy/inactive developers and get some stuff pumped out here.
the BluePrint interface requires all blueprints to have a meathod that is automatically called when a blueprint object is recieved, someone could make a new object implementing the interface with code to wipe a harddrive or potentially worse things when the meathod is called. it will be changed.
The initial releases of our RPGUniversal and RPGMap packages have been put up for download, they are reasonably fleshed out, but not yet complete. These are 2 of many building blocks needed to create the foundation of an RPG engine.
There was a bug in the last release of OpenRPG-gde, somehow we managed to break cross platform compatibility (yes in java :-P) it works fine under linux, but in windows you get a blank screen. this will be fixed in the next release
you can now download Alpha-04.05.30 of the 2d Game Engine
Our Homepage is now available at http://openrpg-gde.sourceforge.net/ it is nothing special, but you get some screenshots :-)
The first compileable version has been posted in the files section, you can download code or binaries, it is written in java so it does not matter what system you are on as long as you have the javaVM
