I've been giving the database some thought as well. I've implemented a perl program which takes the XMLTV data from tv_grab_na and inserts it into a MySQL database structure. I think that this is the easiest way to do the "heavy lifting" involved with getting a database-driven scheduler operational, like when users start doing wild-card searches, etc. I am currently implementing the "hints" code that will let a scheduler decide when a particular program has mulitple showings so that in case of scheduling conflict it's easy to decide which program to defer and when. This handles cases where something like "The Daily Show" will have 5 showings of the same program a day, but the _first_ showing is at 2300EST, M-Th, so a conflict for the 2300 slot can be filled with a showing that comes after that one. I'm working with a relational database guru on normalizing the schema. I'll post code if anyone cares to see it, but it's ugly. Lots of stuff is hardcoded to get it working, but it does work at this time. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
